Selena
She is a singer as well as a designer, and music pioneer. She was a Mexican American performer that was modern and traditional. She united both worlds and brought Tejano music into the mainstream. Her name was rising who's tragic death threw it into turmoil. As is the norm when a brilliant, genial and young artist passes away too early and is buried, many mourned the greatness that she could not yet attain. Through the years, her people were encouraged to push themselves harder in order to ensure that her successes would not fade away. Selena was the Tejano artist who was tragically killed during a shooting incident, caused an Latino reaction that could be likened to the reaction to Elvis Presley's and John Lennon's deaths. A hugely popular performer within Latino communities throughout North America her music crossed cultural boundaries to touch the lives of young and old alike. Selena may have been hailed by some as the Latina Madonna, however she is still a great character model. Selena's family values off stage and involvement with AIDS awareness campaigns provide a great example.
