Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell works as a reporter for NBC News based out of Washington D.C. Mitchell has an undergraduate degree in English from University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell was recruited as a reporter at KYW Radio and TV Philadelphia in 1967. Mitchell joined CBS station WDVM-TV (then WTOP) in Washington DC in 1976. A few years later, she was general reporter at NBC News in Washington. 1980 began her coverage of the White House. 1988 became the chief congressional journalist. Mitchell became the Chief White House reporter in 1992 as well as chief foreign affairs correspondent at NBC News. Mitchell hosted and participated as panelists on the TV show Meet the Press. She was part of the panel at 1988 presidential debates between George Bush, and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan, former Chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell received in 2005 her Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism for The John F. Kennedy School of Government. In 2004, Radio-Television News Directors Association, (RTNDA), honored Mitchell for her role in defending First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell was the very first reporter to report on White House stories for NBC News during the time of Ronald Reagan in office from 1981 to 1988. Mitchell covered a wide range of important stories including the Iran Contra scandal, fiscal tax reforms, and the arms control. Mitchell travelled with President Ronald Reagan many times for summits, and to discuss topics like and the Iran Contra controversy.
